Rae Ellen has been acting and teaching professionally for
twenty years. She’s been a Voice and Acting instructor at York University
and the University of Calgary, was an Associate at the National Voice
Intensive, and has served as Voice/Acting Coach on numerous Calgary and
Toronto stage productions.
Rae Ellen also works as a Dialect/Acting Coach in film and TV, coaching Virginie Ledoyen and Caterina Murino in Prodigy XIII for Showcase,
James McGowan in CBC’s The Border, James Purefoy in CBC’s The Summit, and
more recently Paul Blackthorne in The Dresden Files for the Sci-Fi
Channel.
Rae Ellen also offers private coaching for voice and acting in her downtown studio space.
Her Toronto film and TV acting credits include recurring roles on “Queer as Folk” and “This is Wonderland”, and in the feature film Tkaronto. Selected stage includes the critically acclaimed “Bluebeard” at the 2008 Fringe; The Old Neighbourhood for East/West Theatre Company; “Lemon Water” for the Summerworks Festival; and DWARF for Equity Showcase Theatre, under the direction of David Rotenberg.
Rae Ellen holds an MFA in Acting from York University, with an additional Diploma in Voice and Speech. She has studied with some of the best instructors in Canada and the US, including: David Rotenberg, David Smukler, Paul Lampert, Gary Logan, Rod Menzies and Judith Koltai. Her teaching is based in the Linklater method of Voice training, her studies with her Master Teachers, and, primarily, the trial-and-error of her acting experience.
