John has been acting professionally since 1992 and has been an instructor at The Professional Actors Lab since 2004.
He has taught and directed at Bishop’s University, The Children’s Theatre School in Vail, Colorado and Trevor John Studios in Ottawa.
John has also taught On-Camera Scene Study at Equity Showcase in Toronto. John co-founded 3dimesdown Theatre Company and directed the
first production in 2011, Leonard Melfi’s Birdbath at the Pia Bouman School of Dance and Movement.
He co-founded East-West Theatre Company and directed the inaugural production was The Old Neighborhood by David Mamet at Artword
Theatre. He has directed three productions by Christian Lloyd, Record and Friday’s With Frieda which was remounted later
for Summerworks earning him a Best Director Nomination for the festival. John’s recent acting highlights are
John Cariani’s Almost, Maine at the Tarragon Theatre, Andrew Zadel’s Underneath for Praxis Theatre and Neil LaBute’s
Fat Pig at Lower Ossington Theatre. John’s recent film and television credits include Highland Gardens, 1-800-Choices,
Murdoch Mysteries, killerkiller and .45.
John uses the terminology developed by David Rotenberg for acting for the
camera and coaches privately for theatre, film and television. John continues to be a student of acting. Ongoing training
includes Larry Moss for scene study, John Riven for Meisner Technique and Rae Ellen Bodie for Voice.
