On-Camera Foundations
with Marvin Hinz & Mitchell Court

Over recent months we have encountered several actors who are serious about acting and joining the profession, but are lacking some fundamental skills.  This course, designed for beginner or intermediate actors, will approach our technique in a more comprehensive way.  Our goal is to help you find those missing pieces, to make your work more consistent and more compelling, and to give you foundations and practical tools from which your artistry will continue to grow.  Running Saturday afternoons over seven weeks, this course combines Acting Fundamentals and Introduction to On-Camera Acting, and will be taught by instructors Mitchell Court and Marvin Hinz

The first three weeks, with Mitchell Court, will establish and/or review some of these fundamentals. The bedrock of any acting technique is the ability to get present on demand, meaning you must be “in-the-moment” and you must know how to actively listen.  Mitchell will introduce some terminology and will run a number of exercises based on the work of Uta Hagen. We will also look at how to break down a scene to better understand tactical play, while sitting in truthful (“real”) emotions.  Shooting on-camera will be introduced in the third class: monologues or scenes will be recorded to allow for feedback and to assess the acting choices you made.

The On-Camera Acting process will continue with Marvin Hinz, who will teach the final four classes.  Depending on the needs of the group, we may focus on neutral scripts or monologues, and then move toward more complicated scenes, all designed to support Naturalism on-camera. “The problem” must sit in-front of the text.  Grounded performances often show far more than what has been written on the page.  Sometimes good actors make bad choices because they rely too heavily on the script.  Actors will improve the more they play from their own knowledge and work from their own impulses.  More  terminology and definitions will be explained as we progress further into the technique.  We will look at how to de-construct and embody text (ICONS and ACTIONS), how to access primary emotions, as well as examine how to improve tactical choices when you play a scene or a monologue.

Class is limited to ten students.  As always, actors will receive copies of all videos they shoot in class, usually by the next day. Get the special introductory price (10% discount) if you apply by Sep 4.  For more information, please contact Marvin Hinz and/or click the link to apply today.
