Frequently Asked Questions
APPLICATIONS
All students who take class must fill out an application form on our website. They must agree to the waiver as stated, which is an insurance requirement. When drop-ins are allowed, students must also fill out a drop-in waiver/consent form. Auditors are not required to submit the waiver. Acceptance into class is at the instructors discretion.
AUDITING CLASSES
Some classes are not available to audit, such as voice for actors, special workshops, and some Acting Fundamental sections. That said, we encourage people to audit our on-camera classes before applying, so students have a clear understanding of what we teach, how class runs and what would be expected of them. Your first audit is free. The standard fee for an audit after that is $20, paid upon arrival. If you wish to audit, please check the schedule on our website, and then contact the instructor in advance, in case there's a last-minute change to the schedule, due to weather, etc. We ask auditors to arrive at least 15 minutes early and stay for at least half of the class, as a courtesy to the paying students.
ANNUAL REGISTRATION FEE
This $50 fee is charged (annually) to each student who works at the Lab. There are some exceptions, for instance, special workshops, which will be stated on the form when this is the case. This administrative fee covers a full 12-month period, and is collected to cover supplies, incidentals, insurance, and any replacements or repairs to our equipment.
ARRIVING LATE OR LEAVING EARLY
We understand that many working actors have inconsistent schedules; however, please be sure to advise us ASAP of possible absences or arriving late or leaving early. We will accommodate where possible. This helps the instructor plan the class and order priorities. If you are arriving late, please be sure to call or text your instructor 24 hours before class starts. Do your best to be on time or arrive early, if you want to run lines or warm up.
MAKE-UP CLASSES
Over the past five years, we have been very generous with our make-up class policy in part due to the fact that COVID was affecting everyone's attendance. We had to be careful about people not coming to class sick. We still believe people should not come to class with a cold or a flu, in any case. However, in recent months, this generosity has been misused, and therefore, we need to set some clear limits. From September 1, 2025 forward, both Jeff and Marvin have changed their polices on make-ups (as well as their payment plans.) Click here to read:

REFUND POLICY
Full refunds are not available. The annual registration fee is non-refundable. Partial refunds will be offered on rare situations, only when the class time-slot needs to change, or the instructor cannot attend the class dates originally scheduled.
CLASS ETIQUETTE AND SAFE SPACES
For those of you who are newer to acting, it's important to state that acting classes are places for people to grow and learn. People need to free to make mistakes--fall down and get back up--without fear of judgment. For this reason, as with many acting classes, students be present for their colleagues but must not comment on the work of their peers. Second, if you feel uncomfortable with the material assigned, please let your instructor know and we will provide you with a different scene. And finally, please let us know if you ever feel unsafe in the space, in any way. Belligerent and judgmental behaviour will never be tolerated.
DOWNSTAIRS ENTRANCE
For now, the issue with the downstairs door being locked at different times during the day has been resolved. Door should be open from 8am to 7pm everyday. However, if you find you arrive, and the downstairs door is locked by mistake, please text your instructor (or scene partner) to gain entry. We apologize for this inconvenience, which has been an ongoing issue.
SPACE RENTAL
The studio is available to rent for some events, when time-slots are available. We encourage people to reach out when they need to workshop plays or scripts, or rehearse. Email either Marvin or Jeff for rates. Note: we do not hold a liquor license, so gatherings and events cannot be held on the premises offering the sale of liquor.
